Author has extensive experience in this field we call Project Management. This is a small sampling of the “human” requirements needed to successfully manage any project. So many authors spend so much time and effort trying to find easier “methods” or “technologies” that are supposed to make project management easier. Mr. Roberts knows the real truth. Nothing is going to happen until you get people on your side. You can have all the tech in the world and it will mean and do nothing unless the professional can figure out a way to get people to team up and work together towards a common goal. This book is a great narrative on how to do just that. Highly recommended for project managers and any professional trying to run a team. Especially if the team does not directly report to you and you have no control over their priorities and schedule. Make them “want” to do it and your professional success will skyrocket. Read this book and it will become easier to do just that.

I must admit, I was surprised and a little overwhelmed by the wealth of information provided by this book. Unlike others I have read, this book provides not just theory but mostly consists of step-by-step procedures to get the results you need. The book is a fairly easy read; I’ll give it 4.5 out of 5 for information provided and 3.5 out of 5 for ease of read. Using the techniques in the small office I work in yielded surprising results. There are six ladies in our office and it used to be that conversations about who will do what when, could become quite challenging! Using the techniques provided in this book, I was able to get others in my work place to agree to schedule the necessary maintenance and operations so we would take turns and know whose turn it was. Keep in mind I’m not the supervisor but she appreciated the removal of the bickering! When I first started there several years ago there were six ladies working together and were called a team but we were not. We were six ladies working in the same location and focused on our own desires. Using the techniques in this book, we are now six people who enjoy coming to work and taking care of one another as we accomplish our daily duties. I guess the most salient result for me is we used to come to work focused on, “I can’t wait until 5pm”. Now we come to work focused on, “What can I get done while I’m here?” Since I read this book the first time a year ago and started using its techniques, three of the six in my office like the results and what I share with them so much that they have all bought their own copies! “Why Try To Make Them Do It When You Can Make Them Want To?–The Art Of Influence” by Anthony Roberts has really made a difference for me and my office!

I have read, researched and participated in countless leadership programs over the years as a Vice President. This book by Mr. Roberts is the best leadership development information and instruction out there. The reason is this: it doesn’t just teach you how to ‘tolerate’ your colleagues, employees or others around you…it teaches you how to understand them and communicate with them, as they need, so you get what you want to reach the shared goals and vision of the company, project, or even just working environment to communicate. It develops you—not just simple tricks or such that you forget and cant pass on, but its a sustainable and genuine program that actually produces quantifiable and lasting results within an organization to reduce conflicts, communication struggles, revenue due to multiple factors like turnover, morale etc, and helps leaders to be the best at what they are to do-which is lead others. Many leaders I have encountered are arrogant, power hungry, selfish and not team players. And most importantly, they cause others to be upset making for a poor work environment and cause revenue loss. This book teaches even the most advanced leaders, something they have never learned and I highly recommend it for those wanting to be the top in their industry, affecting others in a productive way to last a life time.
